Who is Harman Smith?
Harman Smith is the author of the Golden Age Chronicle, a series of fantasy novels heavily inspired by famous battle manga such as Yu Yu Hakusho, One Piece, One Punch Man, Attack On Titan, Berserk, and Naruto.
He writes and publishes independently through Harman Smith Books. There is no traditional publisher, no imprint committee, and no corporate line editor deciding which fights, characters, or endings survive. Eight novels are in print across eight years, with a ninth on the way. More than 50,000 copies have sold on Kindle and related channels.
He also makes videos as a Nintendo YouTuber at @harmansmithbooks, and posts writing updates, cultural commentary, and book news on the Harman Smith blog.
What is Battle Fantasy?
The Golden Age is an intense, hard hitting Battle Fantasy series that challenges conventions on what a fantasy story can be. Each book features unique characters and storylines that slowly unveil a greater overall narrative. Individual novels are written as finished stories with complete arcs, not as endless series that never conclude.
Battle Fantasy means conflict with consequences: large-scale fights, personal vendettas, cults, dragon-war, and characters who actually risk something. The tone is closer to battle manga than to polite court-intrigue fantasy. If a book is in the catalog, it is meant to be read as a whole story, then connected to the wider Golden Age tapestry over time.
Where to start
New readers should start with American Evil, the flagship Battle Fantasy novel: a cult in southern Indiana, the Archfiend Ignis, and a survivor who returns years later for revenge. It is a standalone, so you do not need any prior book. The reading guide lays out the other paths: dragon war, a short book, or a story that is not fantasy at all.
If you want dragon-war fantasy next, read The Eye of the Dragon and then Jaw of the Dragon. For a shorter, rawer standalone, The Dream Warrior is 118 pages of Battle Fantasy about a nameless boy fighting a world that wants him broken. The full list, prices, and synopses live on the books catalog.
The catalog beyond the flagship
Not every title is a war epic. Rabbit Hole is an urban crime thriller. Cruel and Beautiful is gothic vampire fiction. Playing Dirty is a fast, affordable entry point at $0.99. Lauren Frey is a more intimate, character-driven novel. Every published title is available on Amazon Kindle.
Independent publishing
Harman Smith Books exists to publish stories the industry will not: dangerous, finished, and written on the author's terms. Readers who want updates when a new book drops can join the email list. Supporters who want to vote on upcoming projects can join Patreon and the reader community.
